Tips from Eliana and Michele
Garda Trentino has so much to offer. Here are a few ideas that can help you organise your stay in Riva del Garda. If you want to know more, you can ask Eliana and Michele for their suggestions!
Beaches at Riva del Garda
Riva del Garda has two main beaches and both are just a short walk from our bed & breakfast. The closes beach is Spiaggia dei Pini, gravel and lawn with a bar kiosk surrounded by green. The other beach is the famous Spiaggia dei Sabbioni, gravel with some grassy areas and a large lawn with trees to relax under. Both beaches have restaurants, play areas and open-air showers.
The Bastione Veneziano and its panoramic lift
Its impossible not to notice the imposing circular tower and fortress that dominate the town when you are strolling through Riva del Garda. And it’s quick, easy, and even fun to get to the Bastione Veneziano, thanks to the new panoramic lift. The views over Lake Garda from the lift as it goes up (or down) are phenomenal! If you want to walk, then you’ll have no problem getting there on foot. We recommend stopping at the restaurant, or enjoying an aperitif.
Cascata del Varone: a spectacular waterfall
Cascata del Varone has been famous since the 19th century and now has a dedicated park to allow you to enjoy the spectacular natural sight in complete safety. That's not all. There, where the grandiose waters flow from Lake Tenno, you can also enjoy the brightly coloured gardens with their plants and flowers from all over the world.
A boat trip on Lake Garda
There are various boat services between the different municipalities on Lake Garda. But there is one that takes a completely original tour of the lake, between Riva del Garda, Limone, and Malcesine, and therefore, between the shores of Trento, Lombardy and Veneto.
The Ponale Road between Riva and Ledro
Built in the second part of the 19th century, this winding road excavated in the rock has become a trail and cycle path that is famous throughout Europe for its stunning views over the lake below. You can travel this route on foot or by bike, and it is definitely worth it!
The villages on Lake Garda
There are lots of little mediaeval villages overlooking the crystal clear waters of Lake Garda. One that springs to mind is the picturesque Limone sul Garda, famed for its traditional lemon groves and porticoes. Or Torbole, the fishing village that has charmed so many writers. Or even Malcesine, where it is possible to take the cable lift up to Monte Baldo. Any questions? Ask Eliana and Michele!
The Busatte Tempesta trail, a great classic
The most famous hikes around Riva del Garda include the Busatte-Tempesta trail, which winds its way over a ridge overlooking the lake. To make the climb easier, handy iron steps have been put in place. Here, surrounded by the charming Mediterranean scrub on the slopes of Monte Baldo, the views of Lake Garda are always fantastic!
Lake Garda’s theme parks
Garda is also well known for its theme parks. The most famous of all is doubtless Gardaland, a huge park with no shortage of new attractions. But we shouldn’t forget the spectacular pools in Caneva Aquapark, the sets at Movieland, a park dedicated to the world of film, and many more such as Medieval Times, Busatte Adventure, and Parco Natura Viva.
The castle and olive groves of Arco
Just a short drive - or cycle ride - away is the little town of Arco. Here you will have trouble not being impressed by the stunning castle, an old manor that, from up on a crag, offers visitors uniquely breathtaking views. To reach this fortress, you can travel through the olive grove, where you will be able to appreciate the rural nature, agriculture, landscapes and history.
Wine tasting and sampling Olio del Garda olive oil
The excellent produce in the area most definitely includes the famous Olio del Garda, grown and made here on the 46th parallel, using olives from Italy's northernmost olive groves. But there is also no shortage of vineyards, growing Cabernet to Merlot, Nosiola and Marzemino. Let Eliana and Michele recommend the best olive mills and wineries for delicious tastings!
Brione and its history
For your first outing from Riva del Garda, we can recommend a walk on Monte Brione: this is a very simple walk, suitable for everyone, with sunny and shaded sections of olive groves and woods, nature, and history. You will come across forts from World War I, such as Forte Garda and Batteria di Mezzo, and once at the top, you can take the time to enjoy the panoramic views of the lake - an absolute marvel!
E-biking everywhere!
Set out from here, book your bike and enjoy the best cycle paths in the area. We have more than 1800 kilometres of tour for cyclists of all levels: quiet cycle paths overlooking the lake, or along the River Sarca, with its harder climbs in the mountains and the rush of thrilling downhill descents. Riva del Garda has everything you need for a cycling holiday you won’t want to forget.
